Applying for a role with us
Note: Although our vacancies are open to international applicants, we are a UK-based organisation and applicants must be living in and eligible to work in the UK. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Please check if you have the right to work in the UK documentation in place before applying. If you do not have the right to work in the UK, we will be unable to proceed with your application.
Here is an overview of what to expect when you apply, details will vary by role:
Application steps
Review the role
Select the role that interests you and read the job pack, including the role description and essential criteria. These will give you an overview of the role and the essential requirements that we are looking for.
Complete the application
Answer role-specific questions and upload your CV. Your answers to each question should stand alone, containing enough detail to fully demonstrate your experience and skills. When answering the questions be honest and highlight examples, relevant skills and experience. We value transferrable skills and encourage applicants who do not have direct experience through employment to provide examples from other areas that meet the requirements, for example through volunteering or education.
Explore roles
Browse open positions on our Careers portal’s Live Roles page.
Save as you go
You can save your progress and return as often as needed until the role closes. You will need to complete all sections to submit your application to be considered for the role. Once submitted, you will receive an automated confirmation email.
Using AI in your application
We encourage authentic, personalised responses, therefore, strongly advise against using any type of AI generated tools at any stage of our recruitment process. AI-generated answers can lack accuracy and credibility, which may affect your chances. Furthermore, AI may generate false claims (‘hallucinations’) and if these are about your personal achievements, they will be treated like any other application fraud.
Appropriate use of AI tools to support the preparation for the job application is permitted. Content generated by AI should be acknowledged.
Please note that any suspected use of AI during any stage of the recruitment process with us, for example when answering sift questions or during interview, will be marked down.
Shortlisting
Once applications close, our team reviews all applications based on responses to role-specific questions and CVs. Our Applied platform means that every response is viewed separately and scored anonymously, so our team will not see all of your responses together. This ensures all applicants are evaluated objectively and consistently. After scoring, candidates are shortlisted and notified by email within approximately two weeks after the closing date.
For candidates under the Disability Confident Scheme, we guarantee an interview if you meet our essential criteria. If you need adjustments at any point, including shortlisting or interview stages, please contact us.
Interview and selection process
Interview invitation: if shortlisted, our People Team will contact you with an interview invitation offering available time slots. This invitation includes information about your interview panel and any additional details needed to prepare.
Most interviews last between 30 minutes to 1 hour and are conducted online (usually on Microsoft Teams). We encourage downloading the Teams App in advance. Check the rest of your technology setup following these steps outlined in How to prepare for a virtual interview.
We sometimes need two stages so you may be called back for a second interview.
Final selection: Successful candidates will receive a conditional verbal and written offer of employment with RCOG, subject to having the right to work in the UK, receipt of satisfactory references and where applicable additional pre-employment checks.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their interview and receive scoring results. More detailed, constructive feedback is available upon request.
Our commitment to your success
We value each candidate’s experience and want all of our candidates to shine in the recruitment process. Please tell us what we can do to make sure you can show us your very best self. If you would like to talk to or email us about the recruitment process, please contact us at jobs@rcog.org.uk or 020 7772 6453.
Additional notes
Please submit your application early, as we may close vacancies early if we receive a lot of applications. Reach out to us if you reasonably need more time. After the vacancy is closed, we cannot accept further applications.
We request no contact from recruitment agencies or media sales. We do not accept speculative CVs from recruitment agencies nor the fees associated with them.
